Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela struggled over their rights and the rights of others. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted freedom for African American citizens who were enslaved in the Southern regions of the US. Nelson Mandela wanted the majority of the citizens to rise against the minority who had power over them. In the end these struggles are very similar. They both wanted to preserve freedom for all. This is what makes them both great men.

Mandela’s struggles were put into a movie called Invictus which is also the name of a very strong poem about freedom and taking control of yourself.

These people were heroes. I believe a hero is someone who stands up for what is right, but not for themselves, for others. They keep peace and freedom in balance and try to keep everyone happy.
